PUPILS at Barrhead High School jumped for joy last week as they finally discovered their SQA exam results.

Throughout the county teenagers woke up to a highly impressive set of performances.

And it was no different at Barrhead High School, in Aurs Road.

In total, S4 pupils at Barrhead High School achieved an eight per cent increase in National 5 exams.

And the success story continued as The News can reveal that the school has equalled its best ever results for young people achieving three or more Highers in S5.

This week we're highlighting the successes of four young pupils at the school- Briony Giblin, aged 16, 15 year-old Ben Cross, Amie MacKenzie, 17, and Daniel McCusker, also 17.

S4 pupil Briony was on cloud nine after achieving nine grade A's in the following National 5 subjects- Admin, Biology, Chemistry, Drama, English, French, History, Maths and PE.

And fellow S4 pupil Ben also made it a magical nine A's in Business Management, Computing, English, French, Geography, Maths, PE, Physics and Woodworking Skills.

In S5, two pupils were five-star students with Amie achieving A's in the following Highers- Business Management, Computing, English, Maths and RMPS (Religious Moral and Philosophical Studies).

And Daniel was a class A student too, achieving the top grades in the following subjects- Chemistry, English, Maths, PE and Physics.

Barrhead High School head teacher, Andy Sinclair, said: "Our pupils put in a phenomenal effort this year to ensure they were ready for the new Curriculum for Excellence Higher and have recorded some terrific results.

"We’ve matched our previous best ever in pupils achieving three Highers or more and our S4 pupils performed 8% better at National 5 than last year.

"I’d like to pay tribute to the hard work of our pupils and teachers, along with tremendous support from parents, and believe we can all look forward to raising the bar further in the future."
