An East Renfrewshire dental practice is to take on up to 2,000 more patients.

Scottish Dental Care (SDC) announced the plans for Barrhead Dental Practice (BDC) as building work on a third surgery room at the site nears completion.

The new surgery means the practice will be looking to recruit a new dentist and a hygienist.

The expansion will take BDP's patient capacity to around 5,000 with the addition of 1,500 to 2,000 NHS and private patients.

Christoper Friel, co-founder and director of mergers and acquisitions at dental group SDC, said: “Expanding BDP represents a continuation of our growth plans.

“This will help attract more patients seeking NHS and private dental care in the area, while also providing new opportunities for professionals looking for a role at a thriving practice.

“It is our responsibility as a dental group to ensure all of our clinics are to a high operating standard to meet the needs of our patients and staff.

“We hope the expansion of BDP is an example of our commitment to the local area and to developing dentistry in Scotland.”

BDP, which is located in the Barrhead Health and Care Centre on Main Street, underwent a complete refurbishment in 2019.

The practice was acquired in June last year by family-run SDC which now has 20 practices throughout Scotland.

Construction at the clinic, which offers NHS treatment as well as an array of cosmetic treatments, is underway and due to be completed sometime this month.

Hayley Allan, the practice manager at BDP, added: “We’re seeing a rising demand for services. This expansion will help us attract new patients, but also a new dentist and hygienist.

“We’ve been a staple dentist in the community for a number of years and look forward to welcoming new patients when the new surgery opens in March.”
