A church in Barrhead has recently appointed a new full-time youth and community worker.

St Andrew’s Parish Church will fund the post for at least the next three years to build connections in the wider community and support local young people.

Graham Currie, a Barrhead resident of 25 years, is looking forward to making an impact in his community.

Mr Currie, who completed a BA in Community Education in 2002, has a background in community learning and development and has worked in various roles within the charitable sector.

He previously served as the pastor of Hopehall Church in Paisley until 2021.

He will also collaborate with colleagues from the Community Learning & Development team based in Barrhead and will be seeking further opportunities to engage with young people and the wider community.

Tim Mineard, Minister of St Andrew’s, said: “This is an exciting new chapter for the congregation.

"We’re thrilled to have Graham starting with us. This post is a concrete statement of our commitment to engage with young people and the wider community, and to make the Christian faith relevant and accessible."

The official commissioning service will be held at St Andrew’s Church on Sunday, April 28, from 11am.
