Neilston were knocked out of the South Challenge Cup at the first hurdle as they suffered a narrow defeat against Broomhill on Sunday.

The only goal of the game at the Dumbarton Football Stadium went to the Lowland League outfit five minutes before the break, with Max Wright’s strike finding the net.

Neilston boss Kevin Muirhead handed starts to a number of the club's development stars, with Jude Milligan also making his debut after signing from amateur side FC Dynamo Redhurst during the week.

The tie came only a few days after the Farmer’s Boys had picked up their first three points of the league season with victory at Blantyre Victoria last Wednesday night.

Two goals from Dom Reilly in the second half were enough for the Brig O’Lea side to earn the win on that occasion.

Neilston will return to league business this Saturday as they travel to Maybole Juniors, with a 2pm kick-off at the Ladywell Stadium.
